STS P2PE Support Update

Friday, November 4, 2016

STS Payments (STS) has recently extended its Point-to-Point Encryption (P2PE) offering, introducing support of the Verifone  P2PE Toolkit as of August 2016, adding to its previous Ingenico OnGuard P2PE and MagTek P2PE integrations. STS are now able to provide support for Verifone’s P2PE enabled payment terminals for use in P2PE solutions should partners wish to use them.

With increasing numbers of merchants looking to introduce P2PE in order to strengthen data security protection levels and take stores out of PCI scope, it was an obvious next step for STS to offer partners and retailers a broad choice of P2PE implementation options that are compliant with the latest PCI-P2PE standards. Maximising choice has always been a key principle of STS.

P2PE solutions enable payment card data to be encrypted within a secure element - an SRED module - right at the point of card insertion, which can then only be decrypted within a corresponding secure element up stream. Merchants and solution providers can leverage this security to aid PCI DSS compliance, or can opt to go one step further and achieve PCI P2PE certification. The Payment Card Industry’s (PCI) P2PE standards are a set of guidelines to be met when designing and certifying a P2PE system. They provide strict rules for the protection of card data, the design of card readers and their handling during delivery and throughout their life, and of software and hardware systems used at the gateway.

G8, STS’ own payments acceptance application, can connect to either Ingenico or Verifone payment terminals for both EMV Contact and Contactless payments processing, and could be used as part of a fully compliant and certified solution adhering to the latest PCI P2PE requirements. G8’s single API provides a greater choice of implementation and hardware options, providing greater flexibility when choosing Ingenico and Verifone terminals and prevents them from becoming locked-in to a single vendor.

STS plans to introduce support of further P2PE compliant terminals in 2017 and so be sure to look out for future announcements. These integrations will provide alternative terminal options to our partners and their customers.
