STS are pleased to announce our recent partnership with Tailwind Solutions. By integrating our SmartNS solution to their unique PoS Paddle(TM), together we are able to offer retailers a quick, cost effective way to incorporate contactless card readers at their point of sales.

Founded by Garry Knox and Mark Stewart, who together have over 30 years experience in the payments market, Tailwind identified some key issues for retailers when it came to deploying contactless technology. There really only seemed to be two options available:

1. Deploy a new chip and PIN device with an integrated contactless card reader.
or
2. Deploy a separate contactless card reader to sit alongside the existing chip and PIN device.

Neither of these options would be ideal for retailers as one does not utilise the initial investment in chip and PIN equipment while the other uses up yet more valuable counter space and causes confusion for both the customer and point of sale operator.

Tailwind's PoS Paddle(TM) addresses these issues and more. PoS Paddle(TM) is an integrated device that reuses the retailers existing investment in chip and PIN. It minimises the use of counter space and provides a clear landing area for contactless cards, meaning with a minimum investment in new technology a retailer can easily deploy contactless technology at their point of sale whilst providing a single point of interaction for cardholders. And because PoS Paddle(TM) is integrated with SmartNS, it will be our award winning EMV application, Emvelink that will drive both the chip and PIN device and contactless card reader, assuring you of the fastest transaction times possible.

Together, SmartNS and PoS Paddle(TM) ensures that contactless card technology will work seamlessly with the chip and PIN, meaning the EPoS application need never know the difference between the two transactions, and it doesn't have to make any special allowances for the different transaction types either. SmartNS also automatically enables the card reader to accept additional payment technologies, such as Loyalty and gift cards, and all 35+ PIN Pads that STS support will be available to use with PoS Paddle(TM) straightaway.
