Thank you for taking the time to read the second edition of Smart Technology Solution Limited's quarterly newsletter, Smartlink.

The ancient Chinese had a saying "May you live in interesting times" and there is no doubt the payments industry is living in interesting times. The past month has seen the European finance ministers agree to make payments faster and easier across the 27-nation bloc which should see support for the roll-out of SEPA. In summer 2007 we see the start of a pilot for contactless payments in London and in October 2007 the start of Canada's first EMV pilot in the Kitchener-Waterloo region south of Toronto. These events provide the impetus for further development in the payments industry and you will see STS continue to play a role in being at the forefront of payments software. Read more...

STS is proud to announce the release of its new EMV Level 2 kernel, EmvelinkMobile. Designed specifically for Windows CE devices, EmvelinkMobile is the world's first EMV Level 2 kernel supporting multiple handheld terminals. EmvelinkMobile has been brought to market in conjunction with partner manufacturers including Canon and Fujitsu, to facilitate the next wave in payment acceptance.

Handheld terminals combine traditional mobile payments with completely mobile point of sale systems. This provides the ability to accept payments anywhere, anything, through the use of real-time communication standards such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPRS. The addition of EmvelinkMobile facilitates the acceptance of EMV based credit and debit cards allowing reduced fraud and reduced transaction times as well as providing an enhanced customer experience.

Cameron Olsen, vice president of business development at STS said "EmvelinkMobile is the first step in the use of this ground breaking mobile technology. Innovative retailers are seeing this as the opportunity to heighten the level of service to their customers, omitting queues during peak periods and bringing staff to the customer rather than the customer to the staff. We will see more widespread adoption of handheld terminals before Christmas 2007 with one major high street retailer successfully rolling them out in the UK already".

EmvelinkMobile utilises the market leading power of Emvelink, STS award winning EMV Level 2 kernel, but adds support for mobile devices including reducing both the software footprint and processing power to deal with the mobile device's constraints.

EmvelinkMobile is available now, supporting devices from Fujitsu, Bristol Office Machines and Canon. For further information on EmvelinkMobile please contact us on +44(0) 208 680 0252 or info@stspayments.com or visit the EmvelinkMobile product page: www.stspayments.com/emvelinkmobile
